Priya Ranganathan is a PhD student from the 2021 batch working with Dr. G. Ravikanth (ATREE) and Dr. Jagdish Krishnaswamy (IIHS). Her research interests lie in tropical landscape ecology, wildlife ecology, wetland ecology and conservation, nature education, ecosystem services, geomorphology, and nature-based solutions. Priya completed her bachelor’s dual degree in Environmental Geology and Biology and went on the pursue a Masters in Environmental Management (MEM) in Ecosystem Science and Conservation from Duke University in 2017. She has worked on multiple projects over the years including wildlife corridors in the Ranthambhore tiger landscape in Rajasthan with WWF- India (2016), human-wildlife conflict in Sathyamangalam and Mudumalai Tiger Reserves in Tamil Nadu (2017-18), environmental education in Nagarahole and Bandipur Tiger Reserves with the Centre for Wildlife Studies (2018), river routing and habitat suitability assessment with Dr. Jagdish Krishnaswamy at ATREE (2019), and lake restoration and nature-based solutions (2022). She currently works on creating nature education curricula with IIHS and ATREE for various projects when she’s not in the Western Ghats collecting data for her PhD.

Apart from her research on freshwater Myristica swamps in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, Priya is a writing mentor with Scholastic-India’s Young Writers Academy for school children with an interest in storytelling. She runs science writing workshops in her free time and is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. Priya is the founder and co-editor of a children’s e-magazine Youth For Nature which strives to bring tales of India’s wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation heroes to children across the country.
