Sailendra is from Singell Tea Estate in Kurseong, Darjeeling, West Bengal. He did his MSc and PhD degrees from the Department of Zoology, Sikkim University. His research pursuits are centred around macroecology, biogeography, and community ecology of fauna, focusing on insects in mountain ecosystems. For over a decade, he has been dedicated to studying distribution patterns of faunal taxa and their underlying process across elevational gradients and the social-ecological landscape of the Eastern Himalayan region. He is currently involved in establishing a comprehensive and long-term monitoring program for butterflies alongside investigating the effects of climate change and habitat degradation in the Indian Himalayan Region. Before joining ATREE, Sailendra served as a guest faculty at the Department of Zoology, Sikkim University
