Karani Singh Bithoo is an environmental scientist with an MSc and PhD in Environmental Science. His expertise lies in the biodiversity of the Thar Desert. Over the past decade, he has actively collaborated with the Forest Department, contributing to biodiversity surveys and conservation initiatives. He has also worked on two biodiversity projects with the Forest Department.
Currently, Dr. Bithoo is serving as a Project Manager for the Rajasthan Grassland Restoration Project with ATREE. His doctoral research focused on community lands, particularly Gauchar and Oran, exploring the role of common property resources in conserving biodiversity in the Thar Desert.
Passionate about community engagement, Dr. Bithoo enjoys working closely with local communities to integrate traditional knowledge into conservation efforts. He has extensive knowledge of desert grasses, flora, and the avian diversity of the Thar, with a particular focus on raptors.
His work aims to bridge the gap between ecological research and on-ground conservation, ensuring the sustainable management of Rajasthan’s fragile ecosystems.
