Ganesan is a botanist exploring plant diversity and plant-based bioresources in south and northeast India. He has a PhD in Botany from the University of Madras, Chennai, India. His main research interests are in plant taxonomy, systematics of the Lauraceae family in India, and cataloguing plant diversity, besides long-term monitoring of biodiversity changes through vegetation monitoring of plots in the Western Ghats, bioresources and improving livelihoods and improving and managing the green cover of urban landscapes. He is also keen to disseminate knowledge about diversity and functional aspects of biodiversity among the public and policymakers to influence biodiversity conservation.
