Sr. Manager Development 

Description

You will be a key member of a small and versatile fundraising and development team led by the Director Development responsible for developing innovative strategies to secure large institutional grants to fulfill the objectives of the organization. You will work with HNIs, Corporates, Foundations and Family offices  to secure multiple types of grants, including endowments, unrestricted and project grants, build and  maintain donor relations, develop grant proposals as well as work closely with ATREE’s Principal  Investigators to understand impact areas and program needs.  

The job is an on-site position based out of ATREE’s Head Office in Bengaluru. You will report to the  Director Development and also be expected to lead the Development Team to strengthen ATREE’s  fundraising efforts.

The Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) was established in 1996 as a  non-profit organization headquartered in Bangalore, India with an initial focus on assessment and  monitoring of biodiversity. Over the years, ATREE has built global recognition and credibility as an  institution focused on rigorous interdisciplinary knowledge generation for use by policy and practice,  towards environmental conservation and sustainable, socially just development. Responsibilities

  1. Fundraising and partnership management 
  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities from diverse sources, including foundations, CSR  funds, and individual donors.  
  • Prepare compelling grant proposals and fundraising pitches, tailoring messages to resonate with  potential funders.  
  • Cultivate and manage strategic partnerships with key donors while also fostering strong,  long-term relationships with existing donors.  
  • Negotiate partnership agreements and oversee their implementation to ensure objectives and  deliverables are met.  

 

  1. Communication & Brand Building 
  • Develop impactful communication materials to support fundraising and partnership goals.  
  • Create storytelling frameworks and content for donor communications, newsletters, social  media, and reports to showcase program outcomes and impact.  

 

  1. Donor Engagement & Stewardship 
  • Plan and execute donor events to showcase ATREE work/impact and help build stronger  engagement.  
  • Ensure timely and personalized donor acknowledgment and communication, including reporting  on the use of funds.  

 

  1. Research & Trend Analysis 
  • Conduct research to stay informed on trends in the development sector and emerging  opportunities for funding. 
  • Monitor funding trends and donor interests to identify and proactively address potential gaps  and opportunities. 
  • Leverage data to analyze and improve fundraising effectiveness and inform strategy.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in fundraising, partnerships, and communications within the  development sector. 
  • Proven track record in securing funding from diverse sources and managing multi-stakeholder  partnerships. 
  • Understanding of fundraising practices, CSR laws, codes of conduct, and legislation – a must. 
  • Strong storytelling skills, with a demonstrated ability to create engaging narratives that communicate program impact. 
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills – a must, with the ability to motivate and lead small and  medium-sized teams effectively. 
  • Experience in grant writing, donor reporting, and preparing impactful presentations for high-level  stakeholders. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with an ability to build relationships across sectors. ● Proficiency in digital marketing and social media as tools for engagement and brand building is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Development Studies, or a related field; a Master’s degree is  preferred.
