Hoppy Frog Game
Amphibian Awareness through Games and Activities
Amphibians are among the most threatened vertebrate groups on the planet. They play vital ecological roles and hold cultural and bioprospecting significance. However, despite India’s remarkable amphibian diversity of nearly 450 species, public awareness of their importance remains limited. To bridge this gap, we developed engaging, activity-based learning tools to raise awareness about amphibians and their conservation needs. The board game, Hoppy Frog, is designed to suit all ages and aims to serve as an effective tool to emphasize the ecological importance of amphibians while fostering cooperation, and critical thinking while making it fun. This initiative leveraged our extensive experience in nature education, and ecological research and so far, has been played by over 500 persons of diverse backgrounds. The game comprises two components: A set of cards, best printed on A5, and a board game which can be printed on 2×2 ft for small groups or 4×4 ft for larger groups. The participants are encouraged to make origami frogs and use them as pawns. A pair of dice will be required to play this game.
The board game is a product of an outreach grant by “IndiaBioScience” to Seshadri KS, Vidisha MK, and Maria Antony P.
