Visiting Fellow

Praveen Karanth
Professor, Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

Praveen Karanth did his BSc in Agriculture from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. After which he went to do his PhD from State University of New York Albany. His PhD thesis dealt with phylogeny and biogeography of Asian leaf monkeys. After four years of post doc at Haifa University, Israel and Yale University, USA, he returned to India to take up a position in IISc, Bangalore. Praveen is currently professor at the Centre for Ecological Sciences, IISc. Praveen Karanth’s research area deals with the application of phylogenetic and population genetic tools in understanding micro and macro-evolutionary processes. He is particularly interested in biogeography, character evolution, phylogenetic comparative methods, molecular systematics and conservation genetics.
