Research Associate: Ecoinformatics

Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), a leading conservation organization in South Asia, is looking for a Research Associate for Ecoinformatics Lab

Location: Bangalore.

Responsibilities:

Candidate is required to provide complete services and assistance in:

  • Creation of geo-spatial data sets and cartographic outputs for various projects from primary and
  • secondary data sources;
  • Perform GIS and Remote Sensing (RS) activities required by various projects along with other team members, ensure quality and timely delivery of required outputs
  • Archival and maintenance of in-house data, field data, library material and equipment resources;
  • Providing assistance in spatial analysis for various research projects such as land cover mapping, modeling etc., using remote sensing and GIS;
  • Assistance in training and outreach activities of the Eco-informatics Lab, etc.,
  • Assist in preparation of reports, organizing workshops and manage data sets

Essential Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Remote Sensing / GIS / Geomatics with minimum of 2 years of technical experience
  • Sound understanding of the principles of RS/GIS technologies and their applications in environmental research and conservation
  • Extensive experience in GIS/RS software such as ERDAS Imagine, Idrisi, QGIS and ArcGIS.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary research teams

Remote Sensing processing in R, python, Java and Ecognition – strong experience in at least one of these is preferred.
