Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) is looking for a suitable candidate for a project on, ‘Phylogeny of land snails of the Western Ghats’, to be implemented in the Western Ghats. This project, which has been funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, will focus on understanding the phylogenetic patterns in the land snail family Ariophantidae of the Western Ghats. The project also aims to study the evolutionary patterns in this family of land snails.
M.Tech (Biotechnology)/M.Tech (Environmental Engineering) or M.Sc (Biotechnology/Zoology) with NET qualification or B.Tech with GATE from a reputed university. The candidate should be motivated to work on land snails and should be prepared to carry out the fieldwork in the Western Ghats independently. He/she should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be willing to work in a team. He/She will undertake both the field as well as lab work including research design, sampling in the Western Ghats, phylogenetic analysis, data analysis and writing reports and manuscript. Candidates with prior experience of working with snails or in molecular phylogenetics would be preferred.
