Positions: Biodiversity Inventory Project in NE Indian Region

Recruitment of Junior Research Fellows, Research Associates, and Field Assistants required for Biodiversity Inventory Project in NE Indian Region

ATREE invites applications for the following positions for a Biodiversity Inventory Project supported by Institute for Bioresources and Sustainable Development, (Dept. of Biotechnology, GoI), Imphal, Manipur.

1. Research Associate-1
2. Junior Research Fellows-4
3. Field Assistants-2

This is an exciting collaborative biodiversity inventory programme between IBSD and ATREE and involves biosystematic & ecological studies of selected flowering plant and invertebrate animal groups across different elevation gradients in Mizoram. JRFs and RAs are expected to collect primary data, curate the data for plant and animal collections, write reports and prepare articles for peer reviewed journals and reach out to society through various media including web portals. We strongly encourage candidates from North-eastern states and particularly from Mizoram to apply. The candidates should be self-driven, highly motivated and willing to undertake extensive field work in remote field sites in Mizoram.

a) Essential qualifications for JRF (four):

1. Post Graduate degree (MSc in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Forestry and allied subjects) with CSIR-NET qualification.
2. A strong aptitude towards biosystematics and Ecology and good analytical skills
3. Good oral communication and writing skills.
4. Highly motivated for carrying out field work in tough & remote conditions.
5. BTech/BE with GATE; MSc with NET; BTech/BE with MTech or MSc

Desirable Skills:

1. Communication and computer skills including databases and web portals
2. Commitment to high standards and have the ability to analyze data and be capable of working both independently and as part of a team.

b) Minimum qualifications for Research Associate (one):

A Ph.D. degree in Botany, Zoology, Ecology / Environmental Science
Experience in Systematic Biology / Community Ecology /GIS/RS

Desirable Skills:
1. Commitment to high standards and the ability to analyze data and be capable of working both independently and as part of a team,
2. Communications skills in English, writing skills.

c) Minimum qualifications for Field Assistant (two)

Salary: INR 10,000/- month
SSLC & with keen interest in Field biology
Fluent in any local languages of NE Indian region & Hindi/English
Highly field work motivated, preferably from NE region and familiarity with the landscape, basic computer skills

Duration of appointment: The position is for a period of two years (to be confirmed after the three month probation period).
Location: These positions will be based in Mizoram
