ATREE is conducting a workshop on Collaborative Conservation of Protected Areas and Forests in Mysore on 22nd - 23rd February 2010. The venue for the workshop is Hotel Paradise, Yadavgiri, Mysore.
The workshop will provide a platform for forest department officials, civil society groups, conservationists and community groups to discuss possibilities for collaborative management of forest areas by the best standards of scientific and local knowledge. Participants will largely be from southern Karnataka and adjoining areas.
The recent enactment of the Forest Rights Act 2006 provides scope to institutionalize collaborative management in protected areas and other forest areas through formation of appropriate committees at the gram sabha level. The workshop will specifically explore issues pertaining to community forest rights as listed under Section 3 (1) of the FRA 2006. Deliberations will focus on the process/experiences in filing claims for community rights; and on approaches to initiate and strengthen decentralized conservation efforts in forest areas.
The workshop will aim to produce a document charting out institutional arrangements for collaborative management and a plan for implementing collaborative approaches in forest areas.
Please confirm your attendance at this meeting by either emailing us at email@example.com or calling us at 080-23635555 by 10th February 2010.
